7th Grade Social Studies Community Service Assignment

Welcome back Social Studies Students!  As part of your Social Studies required work you will be required to perform a minimum of 4 hours of community service in a teacher-approved project of your choice. You might want to start brainstorming the following types of service providers:

• Food Bank
• Home School
• Public Park
• Library
• Community Church
• Nursing Homes
• Fire or Police Department
• Come up with your own!

Carefully read the requirements of the project below. It may be helpful to print out the requirements to keep in your social studies journal for reference.

Community Service Project

Details:

1. You may choose the project/service performed, but it must be approved by your teacher.
2. Your project should be designed to have a positive impact on your community or some segment thereof. Non-profit type organizations are preferred; e.g., schools, libraries, nursing homes, animal shelters, hospitals, etc. If in doubt, see number 1 above!
3. You, your parent(s)/guardian(s), and the organization you are volunteering for are required to complete and submit the "Community Service Agreement Form," which you will download later. (You must be supervised and/or evaluated by someone other than a family member.)
4. You must perform a minimum of 4 hours of service in the project.
5. You must complete your service hours in accordance to the deadline assigned by your teacher.
6. Upon completion of your service hours, you will submit a 1 to 2 page final report on your project. The format for your report will be discussed later.
